Gutters & Drainage
Cleaning, sizing, overflow, downpipes, guards and fascia. The part of a roof a homeowner can genuinely maintain, and the part that causes the most damage when neglected.
Gutters are unglamorous and they are where a surprising share of roof damage begins. A blocked gutter stops being a drainage system and becomes a container, and the water it holds goes into the fascia, under the bottom course of shingles, down the wall and into the ground against the foundation. None of that is visible from inside the house until it is expensive.
These articles cover how often the work actually needs doing, how to tell a failing gutter from a full one, whether guards are worth fitting, and where the water should go once it has left the downpipe. Ladder work is where most household injuries happen, so we say plainly which parts of this are reasonable to do yourself and which are worth paying for.
