About
RoofingWala explains roofing to the person who owns the roof.
Most roofing information online is published by companies that would like to replace your roof. That is not automatically dishonest, but it shapes what gets written: the urgency, the framing, and which options get mentioned at all. This site covers the same ground without that sitting behind it.
Who writes this
RoofingWala is written and edited by Alex Browne.
A declaration worth making at the top: this is a research publication, not a trade one. I am not a roofer and have not spent years on roofs. The articles are built from manufacturer documentation, building codes and guidance published by industry bodies, read against each other and written up in language a homeowner can act on.
That has a consequence worth stating plainly. Some questions cannot be answered from documents, because they depend on what your roof looks like up close. Where an article reaches that point it says so, and tells you to get somebody on the roof rather than guessing on your behalf.
How the articles are written
- Documentation before repetition. Where a figure, a lifespan or a code requirement appears, it comes from published material rather than from what is commonly repeated online.
- Regional variation is flagged. Roofing practice, code and price all vary by climate and jurisdiction. Where the honest answer changes depending on where you live, the article says so instead of offering a single number.
- Safety is stated, not implied. Several jobs covered here are ones most homeowners should not attempt. Those articles say which, and why.
- Corrections are welcome. If something here is wrong, tell me and it gets fixed.
What this site does not do
RoofingWala does not sell roofing, book jobs, run a contractor directory, or take referral fees. It does not recommend particular companies, and it will not quote a price for your roof, because nobody can do that honestly without seeing it. Hiring a Roofer covers how to assess a contractor yourself instead.
It is also not a substitute for an inspection. The articles exist to make you a better informed customer, not to replace the person who climbs up and looks.
